Acai & Goji Scrub, Marula Oil and Green Tea Face Mask

Acai & Goji Scrub, Marula Oil and Green Tea Face Mask

Acai and Goji Microdermabrasion Scrub

This scrub is rich in antioxidants and consists of fine micro pearls and essential oils. This scrub promises to exfoliate gently and absorb natural skin oils. This makes the skin “cleansed” and made free of grease and dirt.

Ingredients:

  • Aqua
  • Montmorillonite (Beige clay)
  • Cetearyl alcohol & Polysorbate 60 (Emulsifying Wax NF)
  • Prunus armeniaca (Apricot kernel oil)
  • Aqua, Potassium oleate, Potassium cocoate, Glycerin, Potassium citrate, Citric acid (Castile)
  • Pumice
  • Cocos nucifera (Coconut oil)
  • Helianthus annuus (Sunflower oil)
  • Vegetable glycerin
  • Coco-glucoside
  • Persea gratissima (Avocado oil)
  • Stearic acid
  • Phenoxyethanol and Ethylhexylglycerin
  • Xanthan gum
  • Euterpe Oleracea Fruit Extract (Acai extract)
  • Lycium Barbarum Fruit Extract (Goji berry Powder)
  • Avena sativa meal extract (Oat silk)
  • Citrus medica limonum peel oil (Lemon)
  • Jasminum officinale (Jasmine)
  • Orchis mascula (Orchid)
  • Amber
  • Santalum album oil (Sandalwood)

This scrub consists mainly of fatty acids. I therefore understand that it is said that this is a ‘soft’ scrub, because the added oils soften the skin during scrubbing.

Marula face oil serum

This oil has both oil and serum in the name and that caused me confusion in the first instance. After studying the ingredients I saw that this product mainly consists of fatty acids.

These are the fatty acids marula and apricot oil. Based on this, I can confirm that this product is indeed an oil. This is useful to know so that you can take into account the order in which you apply skincare products.

Marula oil naturally contains vitamins C and E and amino acids that would help renew the skin. Apricot oil restores dry spots and firms your skin. This combination keeps the skin hydrated throughout the day.

Ingredients:

  • Prunus armeniaca (Apricot) kernel oil
  • Sclerocarya birrea seed oil (Marula oil)
  • Tocopherol & Helianthus annuus seed oil (Vitamin E)
  • Boswellia Carterii (Frankincense essential oil)
  • Rosa damascena oil (Rose damask essential oil)
  • Pelargonium graveolens oil (Rose geranium essential oil)

The marula oil is, in addition to being rich in antioxidants, supplemented with essential oils. Personally, I am not a fan of this, since essential oils have little added value in a skincare product because it provides no positive contribution to skin improvement.

Green tea face mask

This face mask based on green tea dissolves an excess of sebum and prevents impurities. The green tea mask helps with anti-aging and is full of vitamins to nourish your skin and repair UV damage. It’s said to improve the elasticity of the skin as well

Ingredients:

  • Aqua
  • Maris limus (Dead sea mineral mud)
  • Cetearyl alcohol & Polysorbate 60 (Emulsifying wax NF)
  • Helianthus annuus (Sunflower oil)
  • Vegetable glycerin
  • Olea europaea (Olive oil)
  • Cocos nucifera (Coconut oil)
  • Butyrospermum parkii (Shea butter)
  • Prunus armeniaca (Apricot kernel oil)
  • Phenoxyethanol and Ethylhexylglycerin
  • Stearic acid
  • Zinc oxide
  • Xanthan gum
  • Allantoin
  • Pyrus malus (Apple fruit extract)
  • Cucumis melo (Melon extract)
  • Cucumis sativus (Cucumber extract)
  • Camellia sinensis leaf (Green tea extract)
  • Avena sativa meal extract (Oat silk)
  • Tocopherol (Vitamin E)
  • Sodium hyaluronate (Hyaluronic acid)
  • Lavandula angustifolia oil (Lavender essential oil)
  • Citrus medica limonum peel oil (Lemon essential oil)

The green tea face mask is very nourishing because of the glycerine and hyaluronic acid. These ingredients give your skin a boost and a beautiful, smooth appearance

Final assessment

It is a consideration for yourself whether you want to use a scrub on your face. I am more a fan of exfoliants that you just apply to the skin, since they are much milder and safer. Although I have to say that I really like the acai & goji scrub for the rest of the body.

The products in this bundle contain essential oils that can irritate the skin. This is a downside for me. In addition, it is important to know that the products are all very nourishing and certainly help you to reduce UV damage.

You can purchase these products either as a bundle or separately via:

Why does my skincare product roll off of my face?

Why does my skincare product roll off of my face?

You’ve probably experienced it before: you apply a cream to your face after applying a serum and then you feel small balls (also called “pilling”) forming while rubbing it in. Very annoying .. but how is that possible? And how can you prevent this?

Not the right order

If you apply skincare products in the wrong order then it may be that certain substances are not absorbed by your skin. Here you can read in detail what the correct order is and why.

Insufficient ‘rest’ between products

Every layer that you apply to the skin must have enough time to absorb. If you do not do this, you’ll just wipe the product away with the next product that you are going to apply. And that would be a shame!

Give your skin time to absorb the product between layers. Often it is not the product itself that causes ‘pilling’ but impatience.

Remove skin cells

Exfoliating can also lend you a hand in absorbing your skincare products. And that’s not so strange; the fewer dead skin cells present on your face, the easier it is for a product to be absorbed by your skin.

Facial oil? Dab please!

If you like to use a facial oil, do not rub that facial oil in, but gently pat it on your face. This way you least disturb the other layers that have just been applied.

Reusable cotton pads

Reusable cotton pads

We do everything we can to make life on earth a bit more sustainable. By neatly separating your waste, cooking on induction, installing solar panels for your home and so on. We strive to contribute to a better world as much as possible. Yet there are still a lot of disposable products that we use on a daily basis. While there are more environmentally friendly alternatives out there. Same goes for cosmetics, how about cotton pads that you can wash and reuse!

What is the advantage of using reusable cotton pads?

You can use the cotton pads up to 300 times. This saves you money in the long-term and a lot of waste. After each use, wash these reusable pads and you can use them again. Yes, 300 times.

What is it made of?

These reusable cotton pads from Oermensjes.nl are made from two layers of organic cotton. The difference with normal cotton and organic cotton is that organic cotton is grown without the use of pesticide chemicals. A cleaner and less environmentally polluting process than normal cotton.

Incredible product

Because organic cotton is very soft, it is an incredible product to clean your face with. Personally, I find this even better than regular cotton pads cotton pads are so soft. Even after washing, they are soft and that without using fabric softener! For 9.95 you can order them at Oermensjes.nl. Really a product that I would recommend!

Anti-aging: how does it work exactly?

Anti-aging: how does it work exactly?

Nowadays the word ‘anti-aging’ is applied to almost every facial product. But what does it really mean? And does it actually work?

If you’ve taken a look at the packaging of anti-aging products before, you probably noticed that SPF is on the list. SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. That means: solar filter. Now you may be wondering, what does that have to do with skin aging? Actually a lot, I’ll tell you all about it!

Skin aging due to UV (sunlight)

A woman with her chest facing the sun. She is holding her hands in the air, celebrating the sun's warmth.

As I said above, an anti-aging day cream actually serves as a sunscreen. The sun filter protects your skin against harmful UV rays that end up on your skin. A skin filter slows down your skin’s aging process. UV light happens to be responsible for around 80% of the signs of skin aging.

Anti-aging for mature skin

A woman with her eyes closed and her head tilted back. Looking relaxed,

Now that you know that anti-aging slows down the process of skin aging and doesn’t actually reduce it, you are probably wondering what’s up with all the TV commercials that show mature women that use a day cream with SPF in it. Why is that a thing? It is actually a way to respond to the feelings of a certain target group: the more ‘mature’ skin types. This target group is hoping a day cream will reduce or even deplete fine lines and wrinkles. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way.

So? Do anti-aging products work?

Yes, anti-aging products work. It prevents the formation of early skin aging. But it is not a solution for the fine lines and wrinkles that you may already have. That is a common misunderstanding that occurs more than not. You can, however, use other products to reduce wrinkles, such as retinol or an AHA exfoliant by Paula’s Choice.

Tea Tree Skin Clearing Clay Mask

Tea Tree Skin Clearing Clay Mask

This time a review of a mask from the Skin Clearing line of The Body Shop. I was curious about the mask while shopping online, because there are many good comments about this cooling mask.

In this mask, as the name suggests, tea tree is processed. Tea tree oil prevents impurities from the skin. This mask ensures that your skin is calmed and does not dry out the skin at the same time. Sounds good! But does it work well?

How to use

They advise on the packaging to use this clay mask weekly to minimize impurities. This I have done, for a month I used the mask twice a week to see what it did for my skin.

Every time I applied a generous layer and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes. After applying the mask I immediately felt that the mask was cooling my skin. Do not be alarmed if you use this mask yourself! There is menthol is incorporated in this formula, which gives a kind of stimulating feeling on your face.

Menthol counteracts impurities but can also have a drying effect. To prevent dehydration of the skin,Tamanu oil was put in this product. So the product won’t be as drying and will make your skin smooth. You can view the entire list of ingredients here.

Then you rinse the mask off your face with lukewarm water. After rinsing, you can use a cotton pad with water (or a cleanser of your choice) to go over your face again to get rid of all the remains of the mask. It is wise to remove everything so that you have clean skin again!

What did I think of it?

It is a mask that dries quickly and is relatively easy to rinse off. This mask is a nice addition if you suffer from impurities. Because the menthol can be quite overwhelming, for this reason I would mainly use this mask on your problem areas. After using this mask you can rub your skin with a day or night cream to moisturize your skin. My skin felt very smooth and soft after use, I will definitely continue to use this mask.

Natural Witch hazel and Shea butter

Natural Witch hazel and Shea butter

In collaboration with natural heroes, I have a blogpost for you all today. You will be reading a review of some of their most popular products: witch hazel and shea butter, both from their beautiful collection!

Witch hazel: the natural multi-tasker

This substance filled with antioxidants that help your skin recover and even tighten your pores. Witch hazel is made from a plant called the witch hazel. The smell reminds me a bit of green tea!

Your pores will contract and be refined by this nice stuff. This helps ensure that impurities have a smaller chance of forming.

In addition, eczema and psoriasis can also be prevented with this substance. And so it can also reduce prominent veins, dark circles and bruises on your face and your body. To use it for those purposes, use witch hazel on your face or mix it with a body cream if you want to use it on your body.

Shea butter: the natural protector

At first glance you see that the substance looks a bit like coconut oil. The subtle scent of this product has something like nuts. And that’s actually spot on, because shea butter is made from nuts that grow on the Karité tree.

Shea butter naturally contains vitamins A and E. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that prevents damage from free radicals and helps renew skin cells. Say hello to healthy and young looking skin!

Shea butter also has a light protective effect against UV light. A fine product to use as a nourishing hand cream that also protects your skin.

Because the substance is rather hard to work with (literally), it’s best to warm the shea butter between your hands before applying it. Do not let that stop you from trying this shea butter though, because it hydrates really well! Using a little will get you and therefore you’ll get a lot of uses out of one jar.

My opinion on these

The witch hazel is nice as toner, especially because it is easy to apply in a current routine and can solve many skin problems. This makes it really a good all-rounder that really adds something to your collection. It removes redness and your skin becomes nicely smooth.

I also highly recommend the shea butter, for both your body and your face. I like to use it as a night cream, it gives very soft skin and the skin is really intensely nourished and protected by this product. Very nice if you have dry or dehydrated skin. In addition, the necessary antioxidants are present to provide your skin with the right support.

The products by naturalheroes are completely natural, vegan and free of animal testing. And all for a very attractive price. Give it a chance, maybe you will be as pleasantly surprised as I am!

Therme Skincare Cleopatra’s Secret Set | Honey and Aloë Vera

Therme Skincare Cleopatra’s Secret Set | Honey and Aloë Vera

Can we get Egypt to the Netherlands .. pretty please? I do not know what the weather is like where you are right now, but with all the snow and cold this winter I wouldn’t mind a bit more warmth and Egypt sounds perfect for that! With this set of Therme you can get Egypt in your house … or actually, on your skin! Then you have a soft and hydrated skin during these cold times at the very least. 😉

As the name of this set suggests, the Egyptian queen Cleopatra had ‘secrets’. And not just any secret, but her beauty rituals were her secrets. Because of her beauty Cleopatra was admired and that is not very strange, Cleopatra had a few very special beauty rituals. This Egyptian queen slept with a golden mask and bathed in milk with honey to soothe her skin. How interesting is that?! Maybe we could really learn something from those special rituals she used to do.

Although I was not a big fan of the honey-herbal mask that I had made last year, (you can read it here) I am a fan of products with honey as an ingredient. Honey is a good natural product to soothe and intensively nourish your skin. Very nice for dry and sensitive skin! Besides honey there are also aloe vera extracts in this set, this has an antibacterial effect on your skin and is very moisturizing. The combination certainly sounds exotic!

This set consists of samples from the Therme Skincare Cleopatra’s Secret line. So I have the cream shower, a body exfoliant and a body butter that takes care of your skin.

The cream shower creates a layer of foam on your skin when you take a shower with it. This shower cream leaves your skin feeling soft and nourished after use.

The body exfoliator is a gel-like substance that gently removes dead skin cells. This also stimulates a good blood circulation!

The body butter is enriched with honey extract, aloe vera and shea butter. The honey and aloe vera soothe the skin while the shea butter softens it. A nice combination if I may say so myself!

There are also bath pearls present in this sample set, which smell very nice. Unfortunately, I can not test these for you since I do not have a bathtub myself. They look very nice though!

From left to right: cream shower, body exfoliator and body butter.

What do I think of this set?

I have tested the products a few times and I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised. Mainly the cream shower I find a very nice addition to my winter skincare routine. The other two products certainly meet my expectations as well! In addition, Therme Cleopatra’s Secrets has a peachy smell in my experience. I would describe this fragrance as a fresh but sweet floral scent. Certainly a striking smell if you compare them to the other fragrances of Therme.

Have you ever tried something from Therme before?

How to treat winter acne?

How to treat winter acne?

Currently it’s snowing out here and the temperature is below zero, and that makes it incredibly cold. That means your heater is now running at full speed, just like ours. That makes it nice and warm inside, but also a lot dryer. Unfortunately, your skin finds it slightly less nice than you do. If you suffer a lot of acne in the winter then it is a good idea to analyze if your skin may need more hydration during these dry times. It is wise to offer your skin some extras, such as a day and/or night cream that is aimed at nourishing your skin. I like this one very much from NAIF. Their night cream contains no irritating ingredients and is enriched with, among other things, almond oil, macadamia oil, avocado oil and shea butter. A very nourishing and fine night cream (and if you place an order for the first time at their website you will receive a 5 euro discount!). In addition, you can make yourself a sheet mask to further hydrate your skin, this can be read in one of my previous blog posts. You can use your favorite serum and oil that you already have at home! It is an easy and inexpensive way to intensely nourish your skin and prevent dehydration.

I speak from experience when I say that I always had trouble (and sometimes still do!) with an impure skin during the winter times. I always wondered how that could happen and whether I cared well enough for my skin. I used countless face washes and face scrubs to see if my skin benefited from that. Those are pretty much the standard products to grab when you suffer from impurities. But unfortunately not the right ones!

You might not expect it, but sometimes your skin needs hydration in order to protect external influences. Even if you have oily skin with impurities, it is still important to hydrate your skin well with a serum and a moisturizer. It is important to know that you can never get impurities by moisturizing your skin with care products. This is something that people often think, but that is only a fable. Even oily skin can be dehydrated!

The products that ultimately made the biggest difference for me were an exfoliant and a serum. An exfoliant helps you remove dead skin cells from your face, and with that you also remove sebum. With a serum you apply hydration again, so that bacteria that cause impurities gives you a smaller chance to penetrate your skin.

Have you already found your ideal winter products?

Love,
Dianne

The perfect Instagram skin

The perfect Instagram skin

Every skin is tight looking, without stretch marks or impurities. That is the image you get from other people on social media and to which you compare yourself to every day. One person may be more concerned about it than the other, but this slick image plays a major role in the daily life of the average millennial. Almost everyone who frequently uses the internet is struggling with it.

It makes us wonder: why do not I look as good as that beautiful girl on Instagram? We sometimes forget that social media gives a distorted picture of reality. Photos are edited to the pixel and the result looks perfect. What does that do to ourselves? We stuck on the idea that we always have to look good. This applies more or less to the whole body, such as your hair and clothing, but also the condition of your skin.

The skin is the largest organ in our possession and thereby plays a major role in ‘being perfect’. If our skin does not cooperate, we generally feel bad about ourselves. And the most annoying thing is, sometimes you have very little control over it. Hormones, temperature changes and other recurring factors such as eczema an occur. Of course it can also be that you find it difficult to find the right products to protect your skin or maybe you do not know what skin type you have. If you are curious about this, you can read my blog post about how you can keep your skin hydrated or you can analyze your skin type. In many cases there is a solution for your skin ailments, or at least a way to reduce it!

Nobody is perfect, and there is certainly no skin that is perfect. Every skin is different, but there are so many things that our skin has in common. Birthmarks, scars, fine lines and so on. We can not ignore it. Those things are just there, we do not like to admit it. And we do not want to show it at all.

What do you think of the image of social media?

Love,

Dianne
